Board of Governors Search for Vice President & Provost
With the planned retirement in 2018 of President J.A. Roy Bodden, the Board of UCCI has begun the recruitment process to fill this upcoming vacancy. The direction of much of the a new strategic plan is to increase external focus, establishing deeper relationships and engagement with all external stakeholders and in generating increased financial and people resources from existing and new sources. External stakeholders expect to deal directly with the President. As is common at other universities, this leads to a management structure that has both a President with an external focus and a Vice-President & Provost with an internal focus, while both work as team. The position of Vice-President & Provost will replace the position of Dean Academic which will be eliminated.
The VP & Provost reports to and provides consultation to the President on UCCI policies to provide the best resources for supporting teaching, student needs, and research. The VP & Provost is responsible for all academic departments, Institutional Research, Academic Outreach, and key academic areas for the smooth functioning of the University. The responsibilities of the VP & Provost includes the supervision of Department Chairs, curriculum oversight, leadership to the faculty, and managing the processes through which teaching is conducted and administered at the University College of the Cayman Islands. The overarching responsibility of the VP & Provost is to ensure that curricula and instructional pedagogy reflect the mission of the University. The VP & Provost works closely with all the members of the Senior Management Team, which includes the Dean of Administration, Chief Financial Officer, Registrar, and Director of Student Services.
